Reality Testing:

  • Is this Fact, or Opinion?

  • Did I see this event realistically? 

    • Did I make it worse than it was?

    • Is my reaction proportional to the actual event?

  • Am I giving this event appropriate importance?

    • Is my negativity bias giving it too much importance?

    • Am I "filtering" out positive perspectives or facts?


Root Causes:

  • Which cognitive distortion is happening?

  • What false belief about myself is behind this?

    • Are there positives that need more attention?
